Job Description: Forensic Lab Quality Manager
Position Summary:
The Forensic Lab Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring the highest level of quality and adherence to industry standards within the forensic laboratory. This role involves overseeing and implementing quality management systems, coordinating internal audits, and facilitating continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of forensic science practices, strong leadership abilities, and a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement a comprehensive quality management system to maintain and improve the overall quality and integrity of forensic laboratory operations.
2. Establish and enforce quality control procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards.
3. Conduct regular internal audits to assess compliance with quality management system requirements and identify areas for improvement.
4. Collaborate with laboratory personnel to develop and implement corrective actions and preventive measures to address non-conformities and improve overall quality.
5. Review and evaluate laboratory procedures, protocols, and processes to ensure accuracy, reliability, and validity of test results.
6. Monitor and analyze quality metrics, providing regular reports to management regarding quality trends, metrics, and areas of concern.
7. Develop and deliver training programs to ensure staff members are knowledgeable about quality management system requirements and best practices.
8. Stay up-to-date with advancements in forensic science, quality management systems, and relevant regulations to ensure compliance and drive continuous improvement.
9. Provide guidance and support during external audits or inspections, ensuring successful outcomes and addressing any identified non-compliances.
10. Foster a culture of quality awareness and continuous improvement throughout the forensic laboratory.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in forensic science, chemistry, biology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a forensic laboratory setting, with at least 2 years in a quality management role.
3. In-depth knowledge of forensic science practices, laboratory operations, and quality management systems.
4. Strong understanding of local, state, and federal regulations related to forensic science and quality management.
5. Proven experience in developing and implementing quality management systems and procedures.
6. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and develop effective corrective actions.
7. Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
8. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively train and educate staff members on quality management practices.
9. Strong leadership abilities, with the capacity to inspire and motivate teams to achieve quality objectives.
10. Proficiency in using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and other quality management software.
11. Professional certifications related to quality management, such as Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or Certified Quality Manager (CQM), are highly desirable.
12. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and interact with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and auditors.
